The oil worker hostage situation in Algeria haunts me. I got chills when I first heard the news. These are techs and engineers just like my dad ... my family friends ... the people in my industry. And now the death count of the hostages is higher than that of the hostage takers. I don't get a lot of violent thoughts, but this stirs them up. So does the India bus gang rape. And of course, the school shootings. Would it be terrible to have real-life Dexters out there, I wonder?
My heart goes out to those who lost their lives so brutally and senselessly. And to their loved ones, who are left with the unimaginable pain.
Ugh, i just needed a moment. Makes me feel grateful for being able to work and live where I do. Almost halfway through my workday ... Back to the grind. Happy 2013.
Update: two employees of one of my company's subcontractors were among the victims :( R.I.P.
